Ryan and Katerina both come from families with foundation in Pueblo County, Colorado (home of the famous Pueblo Green Chile Pepper). So while we were planning their Country Engagement session, it made more than enough sense to celebrate their engagement on one of Ryan’s family farms, complete with farm fields, hay bails, and horses!
I will never forget this session. We met up at a gas station before we left to Ryan’s family farm. It was still completely dark out and we had a good half an hour driving still ahead of us before we arrived and prepared for the session. I remember Katerina being so joyful and awake when we met that morning! I am usually a night owl and I do my work past midnight and into the morning. I can completely understand someone who wouldn’t opt for a sunrise session, especially because we usually have to meet sometime around 5-6 a.m. to really get the best out of our time. But when I gave the option to Katerina she said to me, “that sounds great! I usually get up at that time every morning anyway”.
It is not very often that I get a couple who is more than optimistic to take photos at the very beginning of the day. By the beginning of the day, I literally mean we meet before the sun rises and we start taking photos as soon as the first bit of orange light appears over the horizon. It is tough to get up early enough and begin moving around so quickly, but hopefully in this set of photos you will be able to see how beneficial it can be for your session. Not only is the light unimaginably beautiful, but the morning is so quiet and soft. It is such a peaceful experience to be able to take your session in the morning and I couldn’t think of a better way to start my day.
As a Colorado engagement photographer, I am more than thrilled to be able to be able to take your engagement photos in any particular location you choose, whether it be extravagant or not. In fact, I’m looking to take more in areas of Colorado that people don’t know very much about; including the eastern plains, the bare desert in the south and near Alamosa, and anywhere else that you can think of that is often overlooked in Colorado. Colorado has so many beautiful locations that are so often overlooked. And in regards to your engagement photos, for me it is more important that you have a true and genuine love for each other that shines through the images, rather than mountainous scenes and incredible backdrops. Of course, those are always beautiful and inspiring to work with, but the most inspiring part about any session that I go into always ends up being the couple who loves one another.
I had the lovely opportunity to photograph both the engagement and wedding of Jeff and Kim. With our busy schedules and while having the two live several hours away we decided to take a more casual approach to the engagement session in that we didn’t look for any extravagant locations to take these photos. Although their wedding took place in the ever-so-beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado (more photos from their gorgeous wedding will come later on down the road!), these two weren’t so picky about where their engagement photos were taken. Sometimes all you need is some beautiful light and a quiet spot to be able to get a good set of images. To loosen things up we relaxed together before we started shooting and the two of them brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate the occasion. We spent a wonderful afternoon getting to know each other and I am so fortunate that I had the opportunity to be welcomed into Jeff and Kim’s life.

My husband and I finally went on our “honeymoon” nearly 4 years late when we ventured to Iceland this past March. Admittedly, Iceland is somewhere that I’d also like to expand my business one day for so I simultaneously used it as an opportunity to location scout for possible future endeavors as an Iceland Elopement and Wedding Photographer. Because my husband and I eloped ourselves on top of a hill in a mountainous location, Iceland’s beautiful landscapes definitely appeal to me for something similar in the future. So I’m just going to put this out there that if you are thinking about having your wedding in Iceland or if you’re thinking about eloping in Iceland, I’m definitely here to be your personal photographer if and whenever you make the jump.
Iceland is a place that my husband and I have talked about visiting since we started dating. As a child growing up and traveling all over North America (and having been to some parts of Europe and South America as well), I can easily say that Iceland’s gorgeous countryside has everything I adore in every place that I’ve ever been into one location: Beautiful, lush countryside through the rolling hills, dramatic mountainous backdrops, hugely characteristic and historic seaside cliffs, dreamy waterfalls behind every corner, completely open skies… the list goes on. One thing that I especially loved about this country was the amazing fields of lava rock covered in moss. It is a landscape I’ve never seen anywhere else in my entire life. Not to mention I’m completely drawn in by the culture of the people that live there and I’ve been listening to Sigur Ros non-stop since we got back (if you haven’t heard of them, I highly recommend).
As I’ve told almost everyone about our trip, after visiting Iceland I really don’t care to visit any other country in the world anymore. I’m not even saying that to be funny or sarcastic. It is literally that breathtaking and it is such an escape from reality, I can’t even put into words how much of a dream that country really is.
So, like I said… if you are thinking about eloping or marrying in Iceland, don’t think twice. And if you’re thinking about bringing a photographer along with you, I would be absolutely honored and thrilled to be a part of your special day (just be sure you contact me in time so I can get the appropriate work permits). I would also love to recommend locations for your portraits in some of the beautiful areas that we got to explore. Iceland literally feels like a second home for me now, and I would be sure that you did not regret your decision if you chose to have me join you on your life adventure.
In the meantime, please enjoy some of these shots that I took. These are only a few of my favorites out of the thousands. Imagine you and your fiancé in these frames while you’re at it…

Jayden and KC are a sweet couple who were obviously destined to be together no matter what. When Jayden contacted me to photograph her wedding well over a year ago, she lived in Florida at the time and we talked about all the details of the big day through email. I could tell immediately how special this was going to be. This girl has the biggest heart I’ve ever known in someone her age and it’s easy to see how her now-husband KC fell so quickly for her. Their relationship started out long distance… very long distance. Jayden was first introduced to KC while he was deployed and their love started to kindle via emails and phone calls. Jayden told me, “We would email and talk on Skype and whenever he got a free minute he always would pick up the phone and call.” A week after KC got home from his deployment to Afghanistan, he flew to JFK airport in New York City where Jayden picked him up and met him face to face for the first time. “The first thing he did before saying ‘hello’ was pick me up and kiss me.”
How did you know he/she was the one?
Jayden: I knew he was the one when I went to visit his family in Oregon for Christmas of 2012. I remember sitting on the couch in his mom’s living room and looking up at him, without him knowing, while he was standing and interacting with everyone around. I got this warm sensation in my heart and I knew from that moment I didn’t want to spend another second without him.
KC: I knew she was the one when I went to New Jersey to spend Thanksgiving with Jayden and her family shortly after my first tour in 2012. I just remember sitting at the Thanksgiving table and looking at her while she laughed and joked with friends and family, thinking I had never seen something so beautiful in my entire life and I couldn’t imagine living life without her in it.
After a long wait and a year of planning, the rest of their lives together have finally begun:
